Ray-theory amplitudes and synthetic seismograms in 2-D inhomogeneous isotropic layered structures. Program packages SEIS

Vlastislav Cerveny & Ivan Psencik

Summary

The compact disk SW3D-CD-6, included in this report, contains program package SEIS88, designed for the computation of seismic rays, travel times, ray amplitudes, ray synthetic seismograms and particle ground motions of seismic body waves, propagating in inhomogeneous isotropic layered 2-D structures. Program package SEIS88 represents a modification of previously designed and broadly distributed program packages SEIS81 and SEIS83. All these packages contain detailed documentations, which explain the input data and outputs. Notwithstanding, the exact meaning of computed ray amplitudes has not been strictly described in any generally available publication. This may lead to some confusion if, for example, program packages SEIS are used to study the reciprocity of ray-theory computations. This contribution should fill this gap and give a detailed explanation of ray-theory amplitudes computed by program packages SEIS.

Keywords
