Joint workshop meeting
ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SEISMICS IN LATERALLY INHOMOGENEOUS MEDIA II
and
19th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SEISMIC ANISOTROPY

Želiv Premonstratensian Monastery
Czech Republic
due to COVID-19 pandemy postponed to May 30 - June 3, 2022

FIRST CIRCULAR

The Consortium "Seismic Waves in Complex 3-D Structures", Charles University in Prague, together with Seismik s.r.o. and Moser Geophysical Services organize a joint workshop "ACTIVE AND PASSIVE SEISMICS IN LATERALLY INHOMOGENEOUS MEDIA II" and "19th INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON SEISMIC ANISOTROPY" to be held on May 30 - June 3, 2022, at Želiv Premonstratensian Monastery in the Czech Republic.

The APSLIM workshop continues the tradition of popular SWLIM (Seismic Waves in Laterally Inhomogeneous Media) workshops held in the Liblice Castle in 1978, 1983 and 1988, in the Třešť Castle in 1995, in the Zahrádky Castle in 2000, in the Hrubá Skála Castle in 2005, in the Teplá Premonstratensian Monastery in 2010, and continues the tradition of the recently established APSLIM workshop held in the Loučeň Castle in 2015.

IWSA workshops are organized bianually in different places around the world. They cover various theoretical and application aspects of seismic wave phenomena in anisotropic media, mainly related to the determination of the subsurface Earth model. The main focus is on revealing of anisotropic rock properties from seismic data, using different modeling, imaging, characterization and optimization methods. Following the preference of the participants of 18th IWSA in Jerusalem 2018, 19th IWSA workshop will be organized jointly with APSLIM II in Želiv.

The original term for the workshop was June 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemy the workshop was postponed, the new dates for the workshop are May 30 - June 3, 2022. In case of change of the dates of the EAGE 2022 Annual Conference, which is announced to be held in Madrid from June 5 to 9 2022, we might consider to change also the date of APSLIM/IWSA. In such a case we will inform all registered participants.

To ensure the continuation of the good tradition, we secured help of an Advisory Committee consisting of several participants of both meetings.

Like the past APSLIM and IWSA workshops the current workshop in its updated format will focus on the theoretical and computational aspects of seismic wave propagation in complex structures, passive seismics, and seismic anisotropy.

The main topics of the workshop will be modeling of seismic wave fields, inversion, and processing of seismic data in laterally heterogeneous, isotropic and anisotropic, elastic and anelastic structures, and passive seismics, including the monitoring of the hydraulic fractures. Applications can be in seismic exploration and reservoir monitoring, as well as in global seismology. The asymptotic ray methods will be covered, as well as full wave and other forward modeling solutions. Theoretical as well as case studies are welcome. The workshop will be divided into several oral and poster sessions. The planned length of talks is 25 min. (20 min. presentation, 5 min. discussion).

In line with the tradition of the previous workshops, the emphasis will be put on informal discussions and exchange of ideas. The Želiv Premonstratensian Monastery provides excellent conditions for this purpose. Those interested in participation are kindly requested to fill in the online pre-registration form. The accommodation capacity of the Želiv Premonstratensian Monastery is limited, therefore sooner applications have a greater chance to be accepted.

The conference fee will be EUR 750, there will be a discounted fee of EUR 650 for those who pay before March 31, 2022. The conference fee includes accommodation and full board for 5 days at the Želiv Premonstratensian Monastery, social programme, transportation, conference materials and publication of proceedings in a Special Issue in the Journal Studia Geophysica et Geodaetica. If there is sufficient interest we may organize a programme for accompanying persons. Abstracts will be up to two pages long, and will be printed in an abstract book available to the participants of the workshop. More details about conference fee as well as deadlines and instructions for writing Abstracts will be given in the second circular, which will be distributed during November/December 2021.
