Marmousi model and data set

The data by Institut Francais du Petrole (IFP) have been re-formatted for internal use by Vaclav Bucha & Ludek Klimes during November 1999.

Data description

Please, refer to the accompanying brochure by IFP (1993), and also to Versteeg (1991, 1993) and Versteeg & Grau (1991).

Data format modifications

The CD-ROM contains the data by IFP modified as follows:

  1. Seismograms located in file "seismic.h@" as the data cube of 750 time samples * 96 receivers * 240 sources have been splitted into 240 data cubes "seis-001.h@" to "seis-240.h@" containing 750 time samples * 96 receivers for each source. The original file "seismic.h@" can be restored by merging files "seis-001.h@" to "seis-240.h@" together.
  2. Original big-endian binary data (VAX, Alpha, RISC workstations) are located in subdirectory "big.bin", whereas the corresponding little-endian binary data (Personal Computers) are located in subdirectory "little.bin".
  3. To conform to ISO 9660 and to simplify the portability to a general computer system, the filenames have been converted to lowercase and the ascii SEP header files "*.h" have slightly been modified.

Data files

The ascii SEP header files "*.h" are available in the DOS format and in the UNIX format.

The individual 240 data cubes "seis-001.h@" to "seis-240.h@" containing seismograms and the data cubes with the model are available as a big-endian binary data and as a little-endian binary data.

A single file with the 240 data cubes "seis-001.h@" to "seis-240.h@" containing seismograms is available as a TARed big-endian binary data and as a TARed little-endian binary data.

A single file with the 240 data cubes "seis-001.h@" to "seis-240.h@" containing seismograms is available as a ZIPed little-endian binary data.
